The book Gulliver's Travels was written by Jonathan Swift. It takes place in different, unusual places. Gulliver goes on four important voyages, the first to the city of Lilliput, the second to Brobdingnag, the third voyage to Laputa, and the last voyage to the country of Houyhnhnms.
On Gulliver's first voyage, he did not mean to go to Lilliput, but Gulliver's ship wrecked on rocks and he had to swim to land. When he found land, he was so tired that he could not move and the people captured him. Even though they were only six inches tall, they were able to capture Gulliver. They loaded him onto a wooden platform with wheels and brought him into the city. In the city they chained him up with twenty-four locks. While he was chained up, he made friends with the people of Lilliput and soon they took the chains off his legs but did not let him go. If he tried to escape, they shot poison arrows at him. Gulliver helped the people of Lilliput win a battle against their enemies by taking all of the enemy's ships' anchors and leading them into the open sea. The people of Lilliput finally let Gulliver go. He took some little cows and horses with him to England for proof of what really happened.
Gulliver's second voyage to Brobdingnag was meant to be a search for new land in the south, but a storm blew him off course and he was blown into a land which he thought was the east. When he arrived there, he went to the land in a rowboat. When he got to the land, he was captured by natives that were twenty times the size of him and they took him to their queen. The queen gave him to her daughter who took care of him and showed him to the city. He was soon a popular attraction and everyone wanted to hold him, but the queen's daughter would not let them.
