Whenever the question comes to mine, âwhat is the highest goodâ? I have to take a deep breath and realize that this question is really deep but so simply to live. Trusting myself to love and realize that I am not perfect. Before I can do well to others, I must do good to myself, because this life is not a game, but rather a life of happiness and misfortunes, evils and discontentment. So let us look at what the highest good is for these religions.
Based in Asia, Confucianism is a religion that started before Christ. It teaches people how to live their life. Founded by Confucius, A very popular Chinese philosopher, focused on human morality and good deeds. As in any belief that has merit, when man begins to bend the rules to make it easier to follow him, it becomes tainted and no longer, what the originator intended.
However, Confucianism and Tao have contrasting views on religion. Confucianism mainly centered on virtue and ethics as a means to an ordered society, and that this is what people should strive to be. Taoism, on the other hand, focuses on the person life in relation to nature. Both are philophosies and not religions, and they acknowledge the paths that a person should take in life.
On the other hand, Christianity, the highest good for Christians was to assume the knowledge of God and his love for humanity. This took their interest off self, and placed it on needs of others. They have no desire to be seen for doing good deeds, because they glorify Christ. This brings them joy within knowing that their being âChrist likeâ. A born again Christians enjoys good things that others have obtained. This brings them happiness and joy to see others enjoying the blessings of God good things. True Christians rejoice in their friendâs blessings as much as in their own so long as souls receive salvation, they live blessed in it, and will rejoice over it.
