Throughout the novel highly recognised novel by William Golding āLord of the fliesā Ralph, who represents the loving traits of good, shares many noticeable similarities and differences with Jack, who represents pure evil. The two characters may be compared by examining their known character traits, their views towards survival of the hardships faced by the group of average British school boys that are stranded on a thought to be completely untouched island during the Second World War, and who arises to be the āBeastieā and why.
The Character Traits shared between Jack and Ralph would be authoritative, ignorant, and non-sympathetic. Throughout āLord or the fliesā the reader comes to recognize that both Jack and Ralph are both authoritative when put into leadership positions. From the beginning of the book Ralph was elected the leader of the group of young boys awhile the whole idea of having a someone appointed a role of authority, almost as if a pretend father figure. Ralph offers Jack some leadership role but not as grand as his, almost as if the motherly role. Jack and Ralph are also both ignorant because neither of the two have any knowledge nor training to prepare them to deal with being stranded on an island with plenty of other untrained boys. During the book Simon then Piggy dies. When Simon dies nobody really seems to notice (which makes them non-sympathetic), besides a couple of the lilāuns that get stirred up thinking that the āBeastieā is the one who killed him and the probability that they would be preceding. Yet later when Piggy dies surprisingly Jack is the one who really cares. Sure Jack is slightly affected by his death but he does not act upon it and does not in any way try to protect anyone else from harms way.
Jack and Ralph, alike almost everyone in the world are known to have their own separate views towards the basics of survival. Jack, and the more hostile and untamed type of people, believe that hunting and food is the most important part of surviving natureās struggles. When people who are more down -to-earth and realistic people, like Ralph find that the more important thing of survival...
