The Government of Canada tried to take $125 million dollars from Ontario taxpayers!? It

is true, supervisor Ron Mulchey proposed a $250 million dollar plan that would apparently

provide new healthcare to Henderson Hospital, Hamilton General Hospital, and McMaster

University Medical Centre. What the residents of Ontario did not know was that the plan would

cost taxpayers half of the money and new health care would not be provided. It was then that the

hero, MPP Brad Clark, took charge and canceled the plan; protecting Hamilton from the

Government of Canada, the evil villain. The rejection of the $250 million dollar plan to help fix

Hamilton s hospitals was a good decision by MPP Brad Clark because the money would not

improve health care in Hamilton and taxpayers would lose money for no apparent reason.

Firstly, rejecting the plan prevented the exchange of hospital departments and it saved the

people of Ontario from investing money into a lost cause. It was wise of Clark to reject the $250

million dollar plan because new healthcare departments would not be added to Hamilton s three

major hospitals. I cannot support it...there are no clinical efficiencies achieved, no value added

for the taxpayer...we are simply doing an exchange of departments between hospitals,

(Frketich, Joanna. A3). The money would only help other hospitals exchange different medical

departments and there would be no apparent benefits for the hospitals or the patients. It also

seems that people in Ontario are not thinking about where this money will be going. The public

wants to spend this money just for the sake of getting something done. Marvin Ryder, chairman

of the HHSC board stated that people here are tired of planning... they want to get to doing,

(Frketich, Joanna. A12 ). It is foolish of the public and of the government to spend the $250

million dollars on renovating the hospitals when it is obvious that no one will benefit from the

renovations. Clark, however, was not foolish because of his cancellation of the plan; he realized

that the hospitals would simply lose a certain medical department and trade it in for another.

Hamilton General would lose its burn and trauma unit to McMaster University Medical Center

(Frketich, Joanna. A12 ). This was a very controversial move in the plan and it was good of

Clark to prevent it. It makes no sense in giving a functional burn and trauma unit to another

hospital and getting nothing in return. MPP Brad Clark prevented...
