HEREDITY VS ENVIRONMENT
The nature/nurture controversy refers to the relative roles of heredity (nature) and environment (nurture) in shaping human characteristics. Human behaviour is determined by heredity and the environment in which one lives. Heredity is what one inherits from his/her parents, whether it be physical or mental. So is the development of one's personality mapped out before their birth, thanks to their parent's genes, or is one's personality a result of their day to day experience?
Heredity is without a question a major factor in the development of people's personalities, for example, when observing a child in development one can easily point out the similarities in the personality between the child and parent, although social scientists may argue and say that our personalities are more learned than inherited. This maybe true, but certain traits as how one may express themselves or even how one relates to certain situations can not be learned, yet they are inherited though nature, these traits of one's personality could be explained as innate behaviour.
Innate behaviour also has its role play in determining human behaviour, what is meant by this is that behaviour which is determined by genetic structure; such as becoming easily angered, hyperactively happy, just basic characteristics as sleeping and eating. On the other hand, the environment in which one lives and moves around in also plays a dramatic role on determining their behaviour. Through the nurture process in life a child in development observes its parents and learns how to act in certain manners, of course all children imitate their parents, and that is one of the ways they learn many things they weren't born with.
