What Caused Lindow Mans Death?
Lindow Mans death was caused by ritual sacrifice. The state in which
he was found and the injuries he sustained all indicate that this was
more than just a victim of random murder, but rather a sacrificial
victim.
What exactly happened to Lindow Man is unknown, but his injuries
provide evidence to recreate what possibly happened during Lindow
Mans last moments. Close visual examination provided obvious clues
that Lindow Man had been murdered.
First, he had been hit twice on the crown of his head with a blunt
object, he had also been struck once at the base of his skull. Second,
he had been strangled. Around Lindow Man's neck was a small rope
that had been twisted tightly, closing off his windpipe and breaking
two of the vertebrae in his neck. Finally, a gash at the throat, which
may indicate that his throat was cut. Though it was possible that this
injury occurred post mortem, if his throat was cut, it was probably
done to drain his body of blood.
Other interesting details were discovered by looking at Lindow Man's
hair and beard. It was surprising that he had a beard, since no other
male bodies had been found with a beard in that particular time
period, this was clearly not common at the time he...
