The speaker of this poem is Neruda. "I no longer love her, that's certain, but maybe I loved her". Love cannot be told from someone else feeling or thoughts. Night and day were where love stood between them. He wrote the quote in first person. Pablo writes this as he might be sad or depressed. "Tonight I can write the saddest lines". He says that the lines he could write would be the saddest ever written. His sad and lonely dripping tears could fill the driest rivers. Pablo Neruda put plenty of unpleasing thought in his poem.
