The Spanish Inquisition was a revival of the old Medieval
Inquisition. It was established by King Ferdinand V and Queen Issabella I.
The two began confiscating property from the Muslims and Jews that had
been living in Spain since the 700 s. They started attacking and expelling all
Jews and Muslims in Spain. She was a devoted catholic and they wanted to
get rid of or punish all of the non Catholics or all former non Catholics who
converted. They stormed the towns and villages forcing the people they
targeted either to run off or be sacrificed.
During the time of the first Inquisitor General named Thomas de
Torquemada, an estimated 100,000 trials and 2,000 executions took place.
The Inquisition went on from 1478 to 1808 when it ended , but it had
already been spread to many more countries where this attack against non
Christians had claimed more lives.
The people who converted did it so that they could stay away from the
killings of the Inquisition. Many people were forced to convert so that they
could end up saving their own lives. Although when they did many of them
still practiced their own religions in secret.
